collecting ornaments!

In my opinion, everyone should start a collection of something or other. And a few years ago, I decided that I wanted to collect Christmas ornaments! It all started with a trip to Orlando in 2007 that I organized for my brother and sisters. Aside from all the amusement park fun, one of the planned activities was a trip to see the Cirque du Soleil’s “La Nouba at Disney.  It was our first time at a Cirque show and it was the highlight of our trip! I wanted to remember the special occasion in some way, so I purchased an ornament with scraps of the costumes inside the ball.  From then on, I decided that I wanted to start an ornament collection commemorating those special events in my life. My collection isn’t very big yet, but I hope to keep adding to it (and those special memories) for years to come.  Whenever the holidays roll around, I can unpack my collection of ornaments and reminisce on all the wonderful moments I’ve been able to enjoy.

Do you have a collection?

What a unique collection! I collected key chains when I was a kid – I still have it somewhere…

I want to collect ornaments too! i have one for when jakhi played football and another for when we became a family of four. Im thinking of getting a hand painted ornament of us but theyre kinda pricey. I have been thinking more about establishing traditions than collections. I think having these ornaments and then maybe giving some to the kids when they start theyre own family might be nice

That ornament is amazing! : ) I don’t collect anything. I think I should. I am going to try and think of something fabulous to collect : )

I don’t collect ornaments but it seems like such a fun idea! I love the one in the photo. It looks so pretty!

I love that – I need to be more intentional about collecting ornaments too. I love seeing everyone else’s collections.

I completely agree! My boyfriend and I give each other an ornament every year, and it makes it so much fun to open them up!

What a pretty ornament! I don’t really have a collection, although I do try to grab one small thing from every city I visit.

What a beautiful Christmas decoration. I do not consciously collect anything, but have a weakness for pretty glass things – bottles, containers, glasses… So they start taking up a lot of space.

I currently collect aprons! As soon as I have more storage space I want to start milk glass and cake stand collections!

What a great idea :) Your tree will look far better than most!! I collect far too many things, but not really intentionally… pretty tops, earrings, silk scarves (I’m going to make that one intentional!), and chocolate ;) Lovely blog x

Such a nice idea…a couple years ago while shopping in Whole foods I noticed that they had ornaments made from Africa and some of the money went to a charity. So, each year I pick one up…I guess it’s a mini tradition that I’ve created for myself and now I have quite a few on my tree now.
Also, I’m having a giveaway today of you’d like to stop over!

I have one too many collections, and I don’t have enough space to put them anywhere. I have a holiday traveller souvenir collection.

Collection of Hard Rock Cafe shot glasses from all different cities. Random scooter helmets from various countries, European football signs, unique CD cover collection, all things odd Asia collection, Toy gadget collection.

My bedroom shelves are overloaded. Very tempted to go for a uber minimalist look, but I have so many memories attached to each souvenir. :)

I love to collect language books, like Learning French, Italian, Greek. I have a passion for languages and want to fluently speak a second language. But with my collection of language books quickly growing, the hard decision is deciding which language to start with.

my mom started buying dave and I waterford ornaments the year we married. i was a little blue about the prospect of not having one this year, but my brother sent me one and said he wanted to carry on that tradition. it melted my heart and i cant wait to open up that box and see what he picked out. I also collect reindeer, but i’m not all that excited about them…they are cute and all, i just think maybe I’ve outgrown them. that, or maybe because there isnt much meaning to that collection.

That’s a great idea Maddy! I know people who do this and it really does enable one to ‘relive’ those memories.

I’m just starting a collection of magnets. When I go places, I’ll get a magnet to remember. For the moment they are in my locker, but someday they will remind me of happy times every time I get a glass of milk.

What a beautiful ornament! I never collected anything but my brother collected different currency.

Eternally yours,
Stephanie

That is such a lovely ornament. I’ve only ever seen one Cirque du Soleil show and I loved it. :)

I used to have so many collections when I was a kid: stamps, stickers, stationery, key chains… Only my stamp collections remain, although I don’t collect anymore. Now? Would shoes and bags count as collections? ;p

I want to collect ornaments when I start my own family one day. These are so pretty

I think collecting ornaments is such a great idea – you must have an amazing display during Christmastime :)

Anaiz December 21, 2010 at 12:22 pm

That’s a cute ornament in the picture. Your collections sounds awesome, I wish many more years of “happy collecting” :):) I personally don’t intentionally collect anything, I just happen to spend all my money on books lol!

Nadette@Eat, Read, Rant! December 21, 2010 at 5:45 pm

I don’t have any room for collecting anything, but I do like the idea of ornaments collecting. And that is a way cooler souvineer from Cirque than the show book that I bought. BTW, Cirque is amazing, isn’t it? I saw them quite a few years ago, and I’m still blown away!

Amy December 24, 2010 at 10:15 am

Oh yes … that’s the reason I could never have a matching tree. I’ve collected ornaments on vacations for years … now, each time I decorate the tree, I’m unwrapping memories as well!

Speaking of which, I hope this Christmas holiday finds you making many a happy memory!
