Some of you might have read my announcement on Twitter and/or Facebook last week, but in case you haven’t, I’m excited to share that Mad Hearts Photography is now officially a business! And I, Maddy, am an entrepreneur! Can you believe it?! I know, me neither! In actuality, nothing much has changed except that a few forms were filed with the IRS and the State of New Jersey and a $50 filing fee was paid, but I feel like I’m finally on my way to living out my dream! After some internet research, as well as getting the input from my photographer friends already in business, I decided to register Mad Hearts as a sole proprietorship, meaning I am the sole owner and receive all profits (subject to taxation, of course!), but I also have unlimited responsibility for all losses and debts. Sounds pretty scary, but as someone who doesn’t have a whole lot to lose as far as personal assets go, it seemed like the best way to go for now. If I someday win the lottery, I will run away with my millions and never look back reevaluate my situation and switch to an ownership that provides more protection for my personal assets, like an LLC. I know it’s only a little step in the grand scheme of things, but it’s still an exciting one!! After it was all done, we opened a bottle of champagne to toast to Mad Hearts and the many adventures that lie ahead!
